Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my class, we say that it's not Disneyland but Miss Tyler's classroom that is the "happiest place on earth." Learning in one place just doesn't happen in our classroom. Students are constantly moving locations and changing places to stay engaged and involved in the learning that takes place.
My school is special in the fact that it is a Title I School, and it is the same district I went to school in.
It feels so wonderful to be a part of the community I have been a part of for the last three decades.
It is truly my opinion that my students deserve a classroom that is not only engaging to learn in but is a place that they desire to be. I want my classroom to be a unique learning environment; my students need a place where they feel inspired and where their creativity can take flight. If it isn't a place where I would want to learn and spend my time, then I think it's safe to say that my students wouldn't either.
My Project
One of the topics we stress in Third grade is organization. Being that we use the CGI approach to teaching math, we are constantly using manipulatives to support our learning. Right now, our manipulatives are all over the place, unorganized and not easily accessible.
We are requesting a new storage unit and individual cubes so that my students can access their manipulatives whenever they need them.
Students will have the opportunity to be in charge of this area, and ensure that the manipulatives are organized and easy to access for math time. This will change the way we do math each and every day!
