My Students

Studies are showing that students should be reading books that they are interested in. Students are more apt to read a book if they chose the book because it is interesting to them; not because their reading level told them they could read it. I just recently switched to this idea and I have some findings.

My students have a wide range of interests when it comes to books including fairy tales, graphic novels, nonfiction text, and everything in between.

My Project

Right now my classroom library is a mess. Some books are grouped by interest and others by reading level. Books find their way into the wrong storage bins because the correct one is over flowing. The quantity of books in my classroom isn't the problem, the organization is.

These storage bins will help me better organize my classroom library so students can spend more time enjoying the books.

With these bins I will be able to sort out the books by popular authors, characters, topics, and genres. My goal is to have over 40 storage bins clearly labeled and organized so when a student enters the library area they can go directly to the bin of their choosing. This way, students will have more time to enjoy the books they love.
