Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class this year is comprised of 20 wonderful students. We are going back to our newly restored school after being away from "home" for the past school year due to Hurricane Harvey. They are wonderful kids who are getting ready to be amazing firsties!
Although I have not yet met my students, I want to create a welcoming environment where they have access to any and all learning materials.
First graders are taught to be independent, and my main job is to guide them through the nooks and crannies of what it is to be a lifetime learner.
My Project
After hurricane Harvey, a lot of my organizing tools were lost. I would love to help my students be more organized with their finished work by providing their finished work a home like the literature organizer and desk trays. This will help them take ownership of their work and be more organized with their desks. A lot of my students are barely learning how to be organized and tidy, and providing them different ways to manage their self-discipline is imperative in first grade.
I also lost my globe and would love to have one on display as we further our social studies curriculum to involve talking about cultures and the world.
