My students need a classroom environment where they can work more productively, fluidly and be successful in their learning. The classroom organization items we are requesting will provide them with structure and classroom routines they need.
My students are 4th graders who live in a suburban town that has inner city demographics. Majority of them receive lunch assistance while half of them are at risk of not graduating high school. They attend an elementary campus that is culturally and academically diverse.
Many students come from single parent homes or are being raised by grandparents.
Their personal experiences are very limited, and they rely on the school for hands-on opportunities and connections. They are the most engaged when the content is meaningful and taught through various methods that are responsive to their different learning styles.
My Project
Since my students learn best through hands-on activities, the students need an organized learning environment where they are able to continue to focus on their learning. The 20 drawer mobile organizer will hold centers and stations that target specific learning objectives. Each drawer will be labeled with a specific TEK and the cart will be housed in area that provides easy access for the students. The hanging folders will hold file folders games that students may play to practice weak skills.
An organized classroom shows that the teacher cares about details; thus, students will take responsibility and pride in these expectations.
The Help Yourself Supply Centers will provide students easy access to the supplies we use on a daily basis. They may use items as needed and not waste learning time waiting to ask for permission, or cause a distraction by getting up to get from another location from within the classroom.
With four different classes coming through the classroom, the Turn in Your Work organizer will be a tremendous help in keeping papers organized by class. Having this item located in a specific place in the classroom will provide students with consistency and less confusion as to where the paper goes. Each class will be assigned a specific color and that is the bin in which they turn in their work.
