Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students: 25 active, energized little kindergarteners who enjoy outdoor play time. We need more playground equipment that will provide safety and stimulating skill-building learning activities for these little ones. Five kindergarten classes share the playground at recess.
Yes, 125 children!
Can you imagine 125 students playing on the playground at recess? At 10:00 am, it happens at our school. Teachers have been providing funding out of pocket to provide materials for the five stations during recess. We are in need of equipment for five organized teacher directed stations where students can bounce, catch, ride tricycles, slide, jump, toss, and hula, ect. Please help us. The students at our school are from low socio-economic backgrounds. Many are second language learners and part of our school population receives special education services.
My Project
My project: Accommodating the needs of 125 kindergarten students during recess is important. We need playground equipment to share with all kindergarten classes. Organized group rotation of classes during recess provides students with 5 different activities weekly. Students will participate in physical activities that are fun, beneficial to promoting skill development, exercise/fitness, and social growth. Using the much needed playground equipment, kinder students will be engaged in constructive physical activity that will definitely improve eye/hand coordination, developing muscle control, and strengthening gross and fine motor skills. Yes, these skills do carryover into the classroom!
I need activity balls, a bean bag board with bean bags, ring toss learning game, a tunnel, and 6 scooters.
These items will help to engage the children in active play. Through the purchase of these items, our teachers will effectively involve the students in physical movement which can impact both their minds and bodies. Our students work hard in class and deserve a recess break where they can participate in fun activities that are safe, skill-based, and beneficial to the growth and well-being.
