Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work as a 9th grade English teacher at a Title I school in Houston. To attend, all students must sign a Commitment to College agreement that requires all graduates to be accepted into 4 year universities with a large percentage of our students being the first in their families to seek higher education. We work hard to instill in our students college readiness skills and values beyond basic academics. These skills include perseverance, compassion, time management, and more.
My remarkable students know what it means to work hard, even if that means overcoming challenges along the way, and they have deep compassion for the people around them.
My students are truly incredible and I feel fortunate everyday that I have the privilege to teach them. They are curious, open-minded, generous, resilient and deserving individuals. I look forward to seeing the places they will go and the things they will accomplish!
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my classroom by allowing students to work in an organized space where they can learn not only reading skills, but also how to take care of classroom materials! Students will use the table caddies to keep their pencils, highlighters, scissors, and dictionaries neat and tidy!
Students will use the large crates to keep their own writing portfolio that they will build throughout the year.
The bright welcome mat will welcome nervous students into my classroom from the very first day! I want my classroom to be a place that students feel welcome, included, happy, and safe and sometimes, it's the physical environment that gives this message.
