Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher. Many of my students are underprivileged. The majority of the students in the school receive free or reduced price lunch.

Many of the students lack structure at home which leads to their only time they receive structure is in the classroom. I have found that no matter how interesting the content is, there are students that play with the items in their desks during instruction. Therefore, I have to empty out the contents of their desks and leave them in a pile under their desks. This can be hazardous to the students because the pile of supplies often fall over, which causes noise. Or they fall over leaving things in the middle of the floor where students can trip and fall.

I have found book pockets that go on the back of the chairs for the students supplies. If the supplies are not in their desks, the children have nothing to play with It eliminates distractions during instructional time.

When there are less distractions, there is more instruction, and also gives us extra time to work on projects that enrich the curriculum.
