Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten class is made up of 9 girls and 10 boys. A handful of my students come from chaotic backgrounds. At the beginning of the year only a few families were able to contribute to our class supply list. Although they may come from underfunded circumstances, my kids come to school ready to learn new things. These children are always looking for different ways to showcase their unique personalities to daily learning. Our weeks are based on thematic units and materials for reading centers and math centers are rotated in and out accordingly. These thematic units help teach content in a fun and egaging way. Students have the opportunity to apply real world application to our learning. In my classroom I would like to apply an easily available and organized system for literacy, math, science, social studies and dramatic play thematic system. This will help my students become independent and responsible members of the classroom by knowing every material in the room has a place to be stored.
My Project
My 19 Kindergarten students are very helpful and respectful of their center materials. My students have become such independent and eager learners that center time is their favorite parts of the day. I would like to give them an organized way to gather their center materials for easy and accessible storage and retrieval. Right now, I have center materials in platic bins with no lids. This makes it difficult for students to really take a hands on, self sufficient approach when helping get out or put away our center materials. There have been many instances where the materials fall out of the bin and become lost or broken. Having storage containers with lids would help eliminate this problem. To even further enhance the organization of center materials, the color coded bins and bags would make it easier for students to understand what materials go with what bins/groups.
