This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at an underfunded and low performing school in an impoverished area of South Louisiana. My students often come to school hungry, tired, and dirty. As a result of not having their basic needs met, many fall behind.
Despite the challenges my students face, they come to school happy and excited to be in their classroom.
They persevere through whatever difficulties they may face and constantly strive to improve. They take joy in learning something new each and every day!
My Project
We are moving from traditional desks to tables this coming school year and need containers and supplies to support working in collaborative groups. Students will be seated together and will need a communal storage place to hold materials accessed daily. The whiteboards will be used daily for quick checks and sharing answers.
Pencils, erasers, and other basic supplies are always needed and often I must replace my students' supplies from my own pocket.
Having these back up supplies will enable my students to have access the tools they need to be successful all year long while reducing a source of stress for me.
