Our students come from a variety of backgrounds in a very unique subset of Indianapolis. We have a true "neighborhood school," meaning many kids walk to school or come from a very near proximity to the building. We are thankfully able to host families regularly for school events. About 80% of our students receive free and reduced lunches and nearly all come from low-income households which means most of the students walk in with a variety of needs to be met. As a staff, we work hard to meet those needs and be cheerleaders for our students both inside and outside the classroom.
Despite the many challenges our students face, they are resilient and excited about the opportunities in store for their lives.
We work hard every day to help students reach new heights in their personal stories of growth. The mission of our school family is to provide a safe, caring, positive environment where students are taught to be readers, writers and problem solvers so they will be prepared to be the leaders of tomorrow.
My Project
Our classroom completely changed this year when we decided to use dry erase board tables instead of desks. Learning quickly became more collaborative and team-oriented. In order for students to use their entire work space, at-your-seat storage sacks became incredibly important.
These new storage sacks would keep everything students need to succeed safe and organized for years to come!
Because they work in a cooperative setting, students appreciate having something that belongs to them in which they can store their favorite books and necessary materials. We would use these sacks constantly if they are funded and it would allow our classroom to stay organized and efficient.
These book sacks would impact student learning because they would have easy access to the things they need as well as a clear place to get work done.
