Organized Active Reading, Imaginative Play, and Outdoor Fun!
My students need more pretend play tools to keep their imagination wild and active during our free time, a new reading center to keep them active readers, and new outdoor play equipment for recess and lunch!
Our room is full of energy! The class is composed of 24 brilliant developing minds who work hard individually, but also have big hearts and help lift one another up. However, entire our grade level is made up of 72 spirited, spunky, and lovable kinders.
Our school's student body comes from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with over 55% of our school's population qualifying for free or reduced lunches.
Our classroom is also so diverse that we have home languages that include Chinese, Burmese, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and English in room 1 alone! Therefore, I make it my goal to provide a safe, welcoming, and accommodating setting, both in the classroom and out on the yard, for all of our students. I want to encourage an eagerness to learn and I try to push my students to not only challenge themselves academically, but to also learn empathy and promote inclusiveness of all kinder friends while socializing and playing with each other.
My Project
Having new equipment and tools for this class would be such a treat. Many of many things in my current classroom are hand-me-downs or are weathered with age.
Having a reading nook with new shelves and book boxes would encourage reading for pleasure and create an organized, neat, and structured area for the kinder friends to read in.
The pretend play and puzzles would give the young thinkers a chance to be creative and imaginative during our free choice time! The jump ropes and outdoor play equipment will give them more choices on how to play cooperatively during recess and lunch breaks.
