My Students

I teach in a Title I school. The majority of students at my school get free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come to kindergarten without preschool experience. Therefore, we start at the beginning, teaching basic letter identification, and by the end of kindergarten they are reading!

My students have hard lives outside of school, but the minute they step into my classroom they know that they are loved.

They know they are there to learn and become the successful individuals that they can be.

My Project

We need book bins to organize our classroom library in a way that will make students WANT to read. These bins will allow us to have our books organized by theme and interest so students can quickly choose what they enjoy. Without bins to organize our books, students can be easily discouraged from choosing a book and reading. This make the process simple and inviting for them. It also gives every child the opportunity to be successful in choosing a book for themselves. This builds independent readers, which is our goal.

Reading should be fun and it shouldn't be difficult for students to find an inviting book that they enjoy.
