Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager, enthusiastic young artists. They come into the art studio willing to learn, take risks, and explore their creative potential. Through our time together, I have had the opportunity to know them as individuals. Many have come up through hardships in their childhood that are more than anyone should experience in a lifetime - yet, they persevere. A large portion of my school's demographic receives free lunch and other services. When they enter the art room, they find a space that is welcoming and supportive. We use many of our projects to reinforce learning through their academic courses and to support STEAM in our school. My students want to be positive members of society, want to participate in problem-solving, and want to find success in their academic endeavors. My students' eagerness for learning surpasses expectations. I take honor in my role as their art teacher. I hope to inspire, motivate, and open their ideas to creative endeavors.
My Project
For this proposal, I am requesting an organizational and storage unit that will safely hold and protect our many supplies, papers, and artwork. The art room is a special place, where students create special works. Proper storage will help to create a secure environment, while replacing broken cabinetry will establish a feeling that all students are welcome, happy, and can enjoy their time in their art journey. I teach students the importance of taking care of materials, respecting tools, and the work space because it is as vital as their creativity. This is storage unit is large, yet closes up for safety and will protect our supplies. Often material is wasted because of improper storage causing damage. Most devastating when it is student work. This unit can hold and organize and incredible amount of supples and papers, then can be closed and secured when not in use. This will not only deter people from taking materials that are not theirs, but will protect our resources and work. Additionally, this storage unit will replace countless, broken cabinets that not only do not serve their purpose, but look terrible and frankly, insulting to the hard work being accomplished in the art room.
