My Students

Organize me!

My students need book bins to level our library!

We need to create a reading system that will match their ability levels as well as interests.

Hi! My name is Mrs. Balaskas. and I teach second grade. My students come into my classroom everyday excited, enthusiastic, ready and eager to learn! When children are given books to read that are far beyond their ability level; they become frustrated, discouraged, and dislike reading.

Using a leveled reading system can help my students become good readers and give them the opportunity to develop essential skills at his/her own pace. Additionally, by letting my students read the book of their choice, I will motivate them more to read, and consequently they will become better readers.

My class is very diverse; there are gifted students, special needs students, and students from many different countries and cultures.

Our school is a public school in an urban and low-income (79.7%) community in Chicago. They are young enthusiastic students with a thirst for knowledge, but reading materials need to be leveled and according to the students’ interest for them to reach their full potential in my classroom.

My Project

The bins that I am requesting for my classroom and my students already have a "home." The books are waiting for the bins. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The bins will be placed in our library and they will be available to every student in my classroom.Help them take ownership at their own learning by checking out the book they like at their own level.

Organization is essential for students to be successful.

These organizational items will help my students to get their books faster, and allowing them to spend more of their class time working independently. Please help my students become good readers and give them the opportunity to develop essential skills at their own pace. Having my library organized in this way will enhance my students' learning and prepare them for the future.
