I teach in a K-5 school in the mountain town of Steamboat Springs, CO My students are motivated and energetic kiddos who enjoy a multi-modal approach to learning. It is my job to introduce new and different avenues to learning in all academic areas. We are a diverse community that is committed to an active lifestyle. As a teacher I am building a foundation of learning for my students. I want students and their families to remember our classroom as a "family" who learned together, grew together, had fun together, and grew up together. I believe strongly in engaging students in many different ways. Like in most areas, the school district is not always able to provide the funding and resources needed to make these dreams possible.
My Project
I have just changed schools as well as grade levels. I will be working with a wonderful group of 1st graders who are striving to achieve academically at school. With the amount of supplies that children need in the classroom, their desks get cluttered and are often distracting. They often need reminders to keep their desks and supplies organized. I had these drawers in my previous school and they worked wonders!!
Winnie The Pooh was once quoted saying, "Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it's not all mixed up.
Students can learn about responsibility and organizational skills by having designated places for their supplies. My students need these drawers to store classroom materials properly. Keeping their things organized will help my students to access their supplies easily without wasting precious time searching through their desks.
Learning to be organized is not only a necessary skill to be successful in school, but a lifelong skill as well.
