Organizational Resources and Supplies for Effective Learning
My students need supplies like clipboards, folders, an organizer and books that will support their learning through the balanced literacy framework. As a first-year teacher I am starting from scratch and want to ensure I have the supplies needed to support that learning.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In order to take on the challenges of the world, my school aims to have students leave with a sense of pride in themselves and their community. Many of my students come from low-income and undeserved communities; however, their eagerness and excitement to learn is inspiring!
Second grade is an important year where students develop and strengthen their reading and writing abilities and get ready for more complex math.
So excited to see the growth and embark on this year of learning with them!
My Project
These materials will make a big difference in students' learning because balanced literacy is an essential component of learning. The books chosen for this project are culturally relevant to my students and will serve as great mentor texts for readers and writers workshop.
The clipboards, white boards, and timers will all be used by students to support their learning in word study.
During word study students use these materials to engage in different types of word sorts and word writing. The storage cart will be used as community storage for our word study and writing workshop materials. The folders will be used for both readers and writers workshop. In readers workshop students will keep their shared reading texts and reading strategies stored in this folder, while in writers workshop they will use it to keep all of the stories they are working on. Other supplies like the post-its and chart paper will aid in teaching my mini-lessons and creating resources for students to look back to.
