This year will be my second year teaching in Saint Paul. I have a wonderful class of 25 first graders. In this classroom, we practice writing complete sentences and practice learning sight words. We also have several whole groups lessons, including a reading and a math lesson. My students are learning to work independently and utilize the strategies that we work on during whole group, as they work on their own, while sounding out a word, while writing a story or while they are reading a book that piqued their interest.
My first graders are an active group of students!
The school is located in Saint Paul in a high poverty area. A large percentage of the school receives free breakfast and lunch.
My Project
A mailbox in the classroom would be incredible! Having a space where students know they can come to pick up their important forms, homework and other materials for home would help with organization. The other materials in the order were carefully selected to help with displaying student paper in an orderly and appealing way. When students come into the room, the goal is to have an uncluttered and welcoming space for them. The lanyards will be very helpful to help with transitions around the building and when we are on field trips. Thank you for your generosity towards student learning!
