Organization Rules the Nation!

My students need 22 seat sacks to help them to organize their materials and books.

My Students

Cleanliness is next Godliness is the old saying. If the students are receiving instruction in a cluttered classroom, than their thinking and learning will be cluttered. The requested seat sacks will help us to stay neat and orderly which will turn our classroom into an even more productive classroom.

My students are African American and Hispanic students who live in a high poverty neighborhood in Dallas.

The neighborhood is also drug and crime infested. Our school is a Title I school with more than 90% of students on free lunch. Our school was just rated academically unacceptable by the state for the second time. Many of their parents do not have a high school education or speak English. Every year, reading is the area where they score the lowest in on the state test. Some of the students that come to our school have repeated a grade level, have behavior problems, or are not where they should be academically. It is time for this to change. Many of our students are neglected, have emotional problems, or are being taken care of by their grandparents or siblings. Teachers get little parent support. These students require a lot of love, patience, nurturing, and attention, but are a joy to work with.

My Project

I currently teach two sets of 21 students reading language arts and social studies. All these subjects have to be crammed into a certain amount of time. This means we are constantly shifting gears and materials are going every where. We have so many textbooks that we find certain books stacked up on the table because we use them everyday along with certain items on the floor because there is just not enough room for all the things that we need to use everyday at our tables. The requested seat sacks will provide organization for my students. They can leave their textbooks in the seat sacks along with their pencil pouches to allow them to have more room at their tables. The seat sacks will also cut down on time wasted on passing out materials and picking them back up. This will allow extra time for instruction. The students will learn organization skills that will follow them to college such as always keeping their area neat and tidy so they will be able to find things that they need.

Donations to this project will help to create a neat and tidy classroom.

Each student will have their own seat sack at their seat to store their essentials so they will not end up on the floor, all over the table, or in another area in the room where they do not have easy access to them. The seat sacks will help learning run more smoothly and less time will be wasted switching back and forth between subjects.
