My Students

I work at a Title I school. If you do not know what that means, it means that a high percentage of the students that attend my school come from low income or high need families. I want to make sure that our students are meeting the challenging state academic standards and working their hardest no matter what their socioeconomic level is. This year we have adopted this form of answering short answer responses called "RACERS."

Our students have been working so hard on this new response criteria.

RACERS stands for: Restate the questions, Answer the question, Cite your evidence, Explain/Elaborate your answer, Revise, and Sum up your answer. I have seen my students start from their answers being "Purple" to "There are many colors in the world that are beautiful. My favorite color is purple. My favorite color is purple because it is the color of a plum, it is also the color of my favorite flower. I love the color purple." Can you imagine a 7-year-old answering this way?

These materials you donate to will help increase the way they write, read, and learn!

My Project

Hello and thank you for looking at my project! I know when you look at the total price you get a little shocked! This is daily items teachers need to pay for. So let me talk about the items and why I am asking for them.

First, we have the crazy cool spinners!

This is not just for my classroom, this is to supply my whole grade level with a spinner! Since these are dry erase spinners, students are able to use it in so many different ways. Examples: What book do you want to read today? - Spin the wheel and find out! What questions do I have to answer about the books? - Spin the wheel and find out! What sound should I practice? - Spin the wheel and find out! What math facts should I answer today? - Spin the wheel and find out! What is my writing topic for today? - Spin the wheel and find out! The choices are endless with this wonderful teaching material!

Next, we have all those folders. For what you may ask? Homework! Now as a second grade we decided we wanted pronged folders so we could put sight words (important words for them to know) and other important information in clear plastic sheets! This is something they will use all year!

Finally, we have the whiteboard markers and erasers. I know in my personal classroom, we go through markers almost quicker than pencils! Crazy I know! Well, these will be our backups when we run out! The erasers are also super helpful! Students can use them at their desk, and they can use them during small groups!

Thank you again for looking at my project and thank you for donating to my project or even others! 2nd grade appreciates you!
