Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are some of the most resilient people I know. Some of them have struggles in their daily lives but it doesn’t stop them from coming to school everyday and doing their best.

Our high school is in the midst of a redesign and there are so many opportunities that are being offered to the students.

However, my students need materials to be successful and to to take advantage of the opportunities they have to truly see their potential.

My Project

I am introducing a binder system with a team of teachers to have students stay organized and have all materials in one place. All of these materials will be able to keep my students organized by being able to use the post it tabs and colored pencils to color code their notes, the clips will be used to put key information in the folders without materials getting lost so they can study and to mark their binders to be able to access material easier. Teaching organization skills is something that will help my students not just in my class but in others as well and throughout life. In my district we are very limited with our paper supply because of cost so the extra paper will allow me to not only color code important papers but print materials out for the students instead of them having to copy the information. Also many of my students do not have writing utensils that they bring to school. Having pencils will allow them to complete the work asked. Having materials in an orderly manner to be able to review and use their binders as a resource will help them succeed in their education.

This skill is often one that is lost throughout schooling and it is not something that is just learned but needs to be implicitly taught and reinforced.
