This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 80% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school is also ethnically diverse. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Hindi, Bengali, and Arabic. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are also diverse in their academics. Our grade level currently supports 30 plus students on individualized education plans, in which we must differentiate to meet the needs of all students.

My Project

My classroom needs helps organizing materials! Throughout the day I see over 130 students for math class. I provide binders with tabs to support student learning and store exemplars, graphic organizers, and multiplication charts as well as classwork and other materials. The classroom is set up with tables instead of desks, so the students do not have anywhere to store their binders in the room. Leaving them on the table is a major distraction, and having the students take them home leaves the possibility of not having their materials for the next day. These classroom mailboxes will benefit students in their learning success, and would be a major asset to our environment.
