Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with multiple groups of 3rd grade students. Approximately 52 students. They are children who are dedicated to their learning. They are working really hard on learning to read and write in English. Many of them can be labeled as a minority, require special education services, qualify for free or reduced-rate lunch, or go to homes that have very few to no school supplies to support their learning journey. Yet, these labels do not define them or let you truly understand just how amazing these students are.
These students come to school excited to learn and have parents who want them to succeed.
They are faced with many challenges along the way and they still push forward with smiles on their faces. My students are limited in English. They have to learn to speak, understand, read and write in English in a very short amount of time. They come to school every day eager to learn.
They value their education and get as much support as possible from home to ensure their success. These students emphasize day in and day out why I love to teach so much and work so hard to meet their needs.
My Project
I am an ESL pull out teacher for 3rd grade. I work with five different groups in a small classroom. Every group has its own differentiated materials. Since I service about 52 students throughout the day it is difficult for students to keep their materials such as notebooks, folders, binders, and books organized in one place. My students do not have their own personal desks. They must share desks with other groups.
Since organization is a life skill, I would love for most of my students to have their own special, personal spot to keep their notebooks, books, binders, and folders in.
Most of my students will be able to keep their materials together and pick them up at the beginning of class and then return them at the end of class without the fear of losing anything. I'm hoping this will eliminated the "I don't know where my... is!"
