This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school, I see that my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Every year, I have at least one student who is homeless. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move and read, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free breakfast and lunch.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
You wouldn't believe how messy a second graders desk can be! They like to shove everything in there and then get upset when they can't find things!
I think binders will be the answer to all our problems!
Each student will have their own binder and folder. The folder has holes so it can fit into the binder. They will also have dividers that have pockets. This will give them multiple pockets to store all of their work in. This means no more rooting around in their desk looking for their work. More importantly, more time can be spent on learning!
