Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a public, Title l charter school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch and is located in a small, urban community. Many of our students come from diverse backgrounds, and include a high population from military families. Our school is a place where children are empowered to become the best learner they can be, with teachers and staff who make them feel safe, comfortable, and welcome each and every day.
In many urban communities, students are not provided with the same tools, materials, and experiences found in more affluent areas.
My students are growing to be lifelong learners, and they are in need of enriching adventures that will help them develop and strengthen their understanding of the world around them.
My second graders are creative, loving, and most importantly - unstoppable in their quest to be successful. Their families sought out our public, charter school and put their most valuable young people in my classroom. The parents are confident in my abilities as a teacher and with these new partnerships and community connections, I enter my room everyday more prepared and driven to provide my students with the experiences they deserve.
My Project
The classroom is already a hectic place with children busy learning and exploring and teachers frantically accommodating lessons, differentiating instruction, and doing their due diligence to keep students engaged for several hours a day.
Learning is meant to be messy, but the environment shouldn't be.
My goal every year is to supply my students with a vast amount of learning tools to accommodate learning styles, differentiate materials, and to introduce a variety of learning strategies. What I notice isn't an absence of tools, it's a lack of space to store them. Currently we have desk bins as well as book boxes to hold our supplies. Unfortunately, this still doesn't provide ample space for all of the items we utilize in a school year.
This project is to allow us more space to hold our items so that learning can take place seamlessly. Having a seat sack to place extra items in will allow for easy access and retrieval when transitioning through subject matter.
