My students need Lock & Fold Storage so our hands-on learning materials are organized and easily available for both students and paraprofessionals assisting students.
Our classroom is a warm and exciting haven for learning. Each student has a program designed to meet their individual learning goals. This means that a lot of individual instruction has to take place so I need to have materials available, yet organized.
Many of the students in my program have multiple disabilities.
They are curious and love to learn, but they need to learn by non-traditional methods. Paper, pencils and books are not the optimal way to reach many of my kids so I look for interesting materials my students can manipulate to learn functional skills. I have learning stations specially designed with letters and word tiles to learn to read and write, as well as a wide variety of manipulatives from blocks to bears to learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
My Project
An organized storage system is a key component to help disabled students access their environment to learn. Each student in my program has individual goals and to meet their goals I set up learning materials specially designed for them at their level, but that takes preparation and materials properly managed. With this amazing storage system I will prepare the lessons and store the materials all in one spot to maximize the time my students can engage in meaningful learning opportunities. In addition, this storage system will provide opportunities for students to manage their own materials, learning to assemble and store the classroom materials. Learning to care for school materials is a very important part of what I teach my students, especially teaching in a low income school where resources are scares. Finally, this storage system will help teach independence by providing a system that all my students can access, but is built to keep materials safe when they are not in use.
My classroom is an exciting and engaging place, but for all students to learn at an optimal level materials need to be specially designed for each student.
This storage system will provide a central location to keep the program materials available and organized and for my students it is critical to have workplaces that free of distractions, yet engaging. This storage system makes it possible for my students to learn in a clean and organized environment, free of clutter.
