Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of what I really need to know I learned in kindergarten." - Robert Fulghum
My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood, where many families are struggling and almost all students receive free lunch.
My class consists of 20 kindergarten students. Nearly all of the students speak English as a second language and their parents do not speak or read English at all. All of the students are very excited to be in kindergarten. They are all very eager to learn.
My Project
My students need these Heavy Duty Bins with Lids bins in various colors to help them stay organized throughout literacy centers. Each center is known by a specific color. I would like to assign a team captain to each group and have the captain be responsible for collecting the materials needed for the centers they will be attending. If the color bin matches the color of the center students should have no problem gathering their center's bin with all of the materials they will need. This will allow students to have a sense of independence while gathering their own materials and setting up their center. It will also save my paraprofessional and myself precious time since we will no longer have to distribute the materials to each center.
