My Students

I have the most amazing class of fifth graders. They are hard workers with a variety of backgrounds. They bring their unique qualities to build a classroom and community of caring individuals. We live in a bedroom community to a larger city. Most of our class is within walking distance to our school.

Critical thinking is a goal for our students this year.

Having the opportunity to explore flexible seating in our classroom will create thinkers that will grow into adults that will think broadly. It gives students choices and the reality of consequences of those choices. It allows students to learn in a variety of environments.

My Project

I have started to implement flexible seating in my class. One of the most difficult elements of flexible seating is what to do with all of the students’ things.

We need organizational bins to keep our classroom materials tidy.

When students have an opportunity to choose where they sit to work it creates the environment that helps students learn in the place they find most comfortable. Currently I don't have a convenient place for students to store their notebooks, reading book and papers. It creates chaos when they don't have a designated area to store their important school items. When we have organizational bins we will be able to move more efficiently and keep track or important items.
