I teach every student from Kindergarten to 5th grade. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have a specific concept or instrument they focus on throughout the year. 3rd grade focuses on singing and reading music. 4th graders focuses on playing the recorder. 5th grade focuses on playing the ukulele as well was folk dancing.
Creating music using exploration and performance.
My students are very open to learning and trying new things in class. When I teach them a folk dance or a new song they love to ask so many questions like "What country is this song from?" or "What does this song mean?" if it is in another language. Sometimes they even ask to perform the dance or sing the song a few weeks later when we are done with the unit. Many of the students are very curious about the world around them and it most definitely keeps me on my toes when they ask questions I would have never thought of when I teach a song or dance.
My Project
Students will be able to have more time to practice and perform concepts and instruments without the teacher having one student pass out everything to each student. Students will be able to go straight to their groups or centers and grab their materials without having to waste classroom minutes.
Every minute counts when I only see each class once a week for fifty minutes.
When students have to wait for their materials for 5 minutes that leaves time for students to lose focus and forget what they were supposed to do once they get their materials. The storage containers will help save time with setup and breakdown of materials.
