This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 30 of the most loving, caring, and brightest scholars! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.
My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.
We will use this time together not only for them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.
That's where DonorsChoose.org comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.
My Project
Last school year I purchased binders from the dollar store for all of the children. It helped keep them organized. They kept all of their unfinished work in these binders, and could easily find all of their belongings because everything was in their binders. However, the dollar store binders did not hold up well.
By funding this project, you will be giving my students high quality binders to keep them organized throughout the school year.
By funding this project you would also be giving the students folders, which they will keep in their binders. It will be another way for them to stay organized. Each student will get 2 folders, and each pocket will be for a different subject, reading, math, writing, & science/social studies.
