First grade can be a big jump from kindergarten. Luckily for my students, it will be an easy transition for them as 75% of them as I will be moving from kindergarten with them into first grade. We are a fun-loving, rambunctious, and active classroom. We participate in daily yoga and dance battles to help us focus and also build our classroom community.
In our classroom, we practice safety, respectfulness, and responsibility in all facets of our science-based classroom.
We focus on our classroom community while also working on bettering ourselves. We use total physical response with every subject to embed our learning for long-term use. We focus on how to have discussions with each other and value each other's opinions, even if we respectfully disagree. Each student is learning how to work and function with others in our classrooms in regards to friendships, partnerships, and being neighborly.
My Project
My classroom has focused on how to be organized so that they can show responsibility for their own folders and important papers. The use of a mailbox and dot spots will allow my students to be more organized within their classroom environment.
As they move up with me into first grade, they will start taking tests independently and work more with higher place value numbers.
The place value chart will allow us to review place value quickly and daily. The privacy folders will help the students to focus as they learn how to take tests independently as well as the content.
