Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like when you walked into your first classroom as a new teacher? I am experiencing that joy this year and want to provide my students with the basic organizational materials we all need to succeed!
I teach at a Title I school located in an urban area of a major southeastern city.
86% of the student population is considered economically disadvantaged and do not have the resources at home to help them on their educational journey. Also, 47% of the students are English Language Learners, which makes it a challenge for them to begin learning the curriculum. Most of these children come from homes where English is rarely or never spoken. This creates a challenge for me as I teach the early skills in all subject areas.
My Project
As a new teacher, I lack the funds to provide basic, organizational materials for the classroom. The organization bins and name tags will change my students' lives for the better because they will be able to find their materials in the classroom, and not use precious instructional time looking for the items they need to complete an assignment. I will also be able to file their amazing work in their labeled bins. They will also be able to travel around the room with these bins and engage in small group centers. By learning how to organize, my students will become more responsible and mature, and these behaviors will follow them to their future classrooms.
Donations for my request for basic organization bins and name tags will make a difference because the bins will be used in centers to reinforce skills taught during direct or small group instruction.
The name tags will especially help tutors and assistants working in my classroom.
