My students have entered one of the most challenging places in the world: Middle School! Unlike many other school districts (in which 5th grade is still in the elementary building), my 5th grade students have a young start into the middle school years. They were used to being the big fish in a small pond and having hand-holding approach to their education. Now they are trying to adapt to the overwhelming world of middle school.
My students this year are inquisitive, motivated, and are up for a challenge.
They struggle at times to be organize or keep on top of their homework assignments, because they are adjusting to the middle school work load. I have many Title I students who struggle with reading and writing. All of my students, though, TRY to be the best they can be and truly want to grow as learners.
My Project
This is my students' first year in middle school and they are really struggling to keep track of their assignments and data information from their MAP test. I additionally want my students to see the growth they are making on the MAP test throughout the year or on their writing essays. For this to happen, the students need to have a place to keep their data or essays, where they won't get lost.
I have requested binders and a storage unit for the binders to help my students get organized and keep track of their growth records.
I also have asked for poster board so I can create anchor charts for my students and I to reference from, about the new skills we have learned. Having these materials provided for my students would be amazing for me because I want my students to have as many visual representations of what they can do and how far they have come.
