This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like trying to imagine what science meant just from reading a book? We like to get our hands on science. Learning by doing is our motto.
My students are active seventh graders.
They love experiments and learn best when they can manipulate what they are learning. We are an urban school classified as a Title One school. The students face many challenges in their young lives but are determined and enthusiastic about learning. Many of my students are resource and special education students. I have investigations and experiments so that they can observe first hand how the science concepts apply to real life.
My Project
At this time we are learning about how cells make up tissues, organs and organ systems. The ability to see in a real life context how cells form tissues, tissues work together in organs and finally how organs work together in organ systems would increase their learning and understanding of this concept. This will allow the students to see the 'big picture'. It is an opportunity to present the lesson in a real life context.
Children learn from doing.
My students are excited about the prospect of doing a dissection so that they can see how tissues, organs and organ systems are related. They will be able to relate this to their own bodies. I believe this will help them to understand how their bodies work and thus will take better care of their health.
