I teach fifth grade at a culturally diverse PK-5 school in the center of Portland, OR. Our school is built on a strong history of community. We are an international baccalaureate (IB) school with a Mandarin dual-language immersion program. We also have a unique partnership with local artists and Portland State University that houses a contemporary art museum within our school with an unusual pairing between elementary education and internationally renowned artists and their work.
Fifth grade is such a pivotal year for students, and I am honored to be their teacher.
We are establishing a solid, inclusive classroom community of learners. It is amazing to see my students' growth (as learners and people in general) as they navigate their last elementary school year.
My Project
Replenishing some of our daily, basic supplies will make a difference for my students by allowing learning and work to continue. We need eraser toppers, which show we make mistakes and learn and grow from them. We need colored paper to make assignments and newsletters stand out. We need clipboards so students can take their work throughout the room and not be confined to a desk. We need easel paper so we have anchor charts to refer to topics and strategies during independent work. We need Post-it notes to mark our reading and to take notes.
All of these basic, everyday, ordinary supplies will create an EXTRAordinary education for my students!
