Ms. Sheehan` from Pine Bluff AR is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Ordinary Materials for Extrordorinary Students

My students need paper and pencils to take notes during class. We also need expo markers and large pads of chart paper so that we can do problems around the room.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students have a million and one things to worry about at home. I want my classroom to be a place where they can just focus on learning!

I work at an alternative school full of incredible young people.

Being in a city with one of the highest crime rates in America means that my students have a lot of things to worry about at home. Some nights my students' friends or relatives have been arrested and some nights it's even worse. Despite these challenges, my students show up each day because they know how important their education is. Each one of my students is incredibly inspiring in their own way.

My Project

Many days I find myself questioning how it is possible to forget to bring your backpack to school, but I quickly realize that many of my students do not own a backpack. I want to be able to supply simple things like pencils and paper so that there is one less thing that my students have to worry about. Other materials that will be funded through this project will allow my students to work problems out together on the wall using chart paper or on the white board using the expo markers. This will present new and different ways of learning for my students. The recycling bin will help my students learn to be sustainable.

Although these are very ordinary supplies they will help my classroom become a reliable, safe-space for my students.

Having a large supply of these will allow my students to be prepared to learn every day.
