Order Up: Learning About Money Through a Pretend Kindergarten Restaurant
My students need a pretend restaurant play set, along with a cook top set, a cash register and read aloud books, so they can learn important lessons about money and finances.
Students in my kindergarten classroom come to school excited about learning. Many of my students come from low-income families, and all the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. This background can mean that students’ families cannot afford to purchase needed school supplies.
My students deserve to receive the best education possible so that they are able to succeed in school and in life.
These boys and girls have such awesome attitudes, and they try their best every day!
My Project
My kindergarten students learn so much through pretend play. They are able to investigate a concept by role playing real life events. My kindergarten students also need to learn important financial literacy related lessons. Even though they are young, they need to begin their paths toward becoming financially literate adults.
I am requesting pretend restaurant and cook top sets, along with a play cash register, so my students can practice earning, handling and spending money wisely.
My students will be able to role play various roles, such as restaurant owners, servers, chefs and patrons. They will begin to understand that they can earn their own money, through hard work. They will also learn about making wise decisions when they are choosing how to spend their money.
I am also requesting three read aloud books about familiar characters, such as Amelia Bedelia and Curious George, in which the characters earn their own money through various methods. My students love to listen to books being read aloud and I will use these books to begin classroom discussions about money and finances, especially working hard to earn money.
By helping purchase these pretend play sets and read aloud books, donors will be investing in my students' financial literacy education and helping them learn financial lessons which are extremely important to their futures.
