My Students

My students are categorized as intellectually disabled. They are hard workers who need extra support and practice in order to acquire and retain information.

My students rely heavily on visual aids and accurate visual models in order to internalize skills.

In math, my students are working to understand and retain basic numeric concepts. The use of manipulatives and visual aids facilitates their understanding and application of skills. Learning skills that will aid in my students living independently as well as gain and maintain employment to be contributing members of society is the ultimate goal.

My Project

My students will be completing a unit on ordering and comparing numbers. The materials that I have requested will provide my students with an opportunity to learn through the use of manipulatives. These will help them visualize and compare number quantities.

My students will use the base ten blocks to quantify information.

They will use the tangrams to count and compare numbers in a way that allows them to explore with their tactile senses. My students can use the other manipulatives I've requested to strengthen their fine motor skills as they create life-long abilities to be independent learners and thinkers.
