Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 7th and 8th graders at a public middle school in Southern California. The school receives Title I funding, and over 80% of the school population is below the poverty level. Many of their families cannot afford to provide basic instrument supplies like reeds and oils.
My students love to play music and are so excited when people donate to our school so that they can play.
It's so exciting for them to see that the community cares about them enough to donate and help them out!
My Project
My students need these essential orchestra supplies to replace broken strings and worn bows, maintain their instruments, and hold them correctly.
Having the supplies needed to succeed is so important to students learning well.
Many of the students do not have the funds to purchase strings if one breaks or replace bows that have lost their hair or broken. This project will give students the tools they need to succeed in orchestra. As part of a positive musical experience, students learn teamwork, creativity, fine motors, artistic expression, and aesthetic beauty. All of these things will make a huge difference in my student's lives.
