Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our instruments are in need of being replaced. A new viola will make playing in Orchestra much more enjoyable. It is almost impossible to improve your playing when you are playing on a bad quality instrument. Our students fight their instruments everyday.
Our students are a part of a long history of musicians at their high school.
They are very devoted to the Orchestra program. Many of our musicians take part in Orchestra, chamber ensemble, all city orchestra, and Mariachi. We are an urban school with very old instruments. Many of them have scratches and dents that cannot be fixed. Most of our students must share their instruments with other students. It is hard to practice and take their violas home if they must share the viola with two other students. More instruments would mean more practice time for each student. For many of our students, affording an instrument is very difficult. The school must help provide an instrument for them.
My Project
The quality of the instrument makes a big difference. Our students will enjoy the sound of a better instrument. They will learn to play much faster and have an easier time when they are not fighting against their instrument. We can play more challenging music when we have better instruments. Our students will be excited to play a new viola that has not been abused throughout the years.
Most of our students cannot afford a good quality instrument.
A donation to our project will put a good quality instrument in the hands of a student who needs one. Our Orchestra will sound better and attract more students to join.
