This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students mostly come from impoverished households and are all from the inner city. Many of my students are latchkey kids and need to rely on the school to provide social, emotional, and material support.
I have a diverse population of students who are very talented and are looking for a creative outlet.
There is a constant influx of refugees from other countries. These students are very intelligent and thrive in the fine arts.
Students come from all over the city. Although, many are from the neighborhood that directly surrounds the school.
My Project
I have a budding orchestra program, but am lacking enough books for every student. I have had such a huge increase in student enrollment for the program, that I have run out of books.
Many of my students come from poverty and their parents can’t afford to pay for books and supplies.
I try to make my program accessible to any student who would like to participate by supplying instruments, books, supplemental materials, and necessary instrument accessories.
These books will be used in small and large group lessons. They will help to ensure that all of my students have what they need to be successful on their instruments.
