Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is fortunate to have leaders who believe a school must excel in academics, but also nurture a child's emotional and physical needs as well. Our school has a "house system" fashioned after the highly acclaimed Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. The house system pairs up students from pre-K through 6th grade and staff members and teachers into teams called "houses." We hold house meetings and rallies to build school spirit, cooperation, pride, and teamwork. Each of our houses is represented by a core value and color. In my classroom, students are exposed to many touches of orange, MY house color.
I would like a chance to incorporate more orange in my classroom.
Our school has a high number of free or reduced-lunch recipients, and some of our students struggle to have the necessary items needed for school each day. Our highly receptive staff works hard to be sure all of our students have what they need to succeed. Having a fun, clean, and pleasant work place for them may help them realize they are valued. "Orange" you glad when someone acknowledges your work?! I want the same for my students. Thank you for supporting our learning.
My Project
In a world filled with color and light, I want my classroom to also be a place which appeals to the senses of my students. I want to create a classroom where they feel like I really thought about them while planning their classroom environment. Since they get to choose their seating in certain classes, I have found multiple types of seats and tables help the students find their Goldilocks moment... "This one feels just right." If we are able to add this furniture to our classroom, I can only imagine the positive feeling it will provide for my students.
