I teach in a very diverse area. The students come from a variety of backgrounds. We have a high population of ELL students that speak other languages at home, as they learn to speak and understand English at school. Many of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My class is a general education classroom that consists of a variety of learners. I have students that have been diagnosed with ADHD, ASD, LD or they are learning to speak English, as mentioned above. I strive to build a positive classroom community, that all students feel loved and welcomed. Everyone can shine in their own way. Each child brings something special to our community. This is what I refer to as "our classroom family" all year long. We love one another, help each other and work together to be the best we can be. We learn acceptance, teamwork and responsibility. We learn so much more than just academic skills (although we do a lot of that too).
My Project
My students need more STEM opportunities. I would like to provide my first graders with an Osmo Genuius kit, Osmo Coding, Osmo Creative Kit, iPad bases and cases to put the kits in. The different games will provide my students with technology and science that they will be able to work on independently during my small group center time.
Students will be challenged and learn at their own pace, while incorporating STEM and art opportunities.
Technology in the classroom makes learning more fun! It also prepares students for the future. I plan to create an optimal learning environment for my students.
