Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal is to make my classroom fun and engaging. I want my students to love coming to school and to be active learners!
I have 24 kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students.
They come to school each day with big smiles on their faces and are ready to learn. I teach in a low-income school with a high number of English language learners. My school is innovative and offers a wide variety of after-school clubs to give opportunities to students that many probably wouldn't have otherwise.
My Project
I believe in making my classroom hands-on, engaging, rigorous, and magical! I am inspired by the amazing educators at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, GA. At least once a month, I transform my classroom into a different place. From a jungle (complete with Jeeps and hanging vines) for our ABC Safari, to a construction zone for building to 100, to an ocean (complete with a boat hanging from the ceiling!) as we study the different zones of the oceans and the adaptations sea animals have to live in each zone. The look on my students' faces as they enter the classroom on transformation days is indescribable. Throughout the entire day, students are focused, engaged, and learning!

I am requesting a snow-making machine for our Snow Day transformation and our weather unit kickoff. Students will walk into our classroom with snowflakes coming down around them. This will help to create our classroom magic. The black lights will be used in our blacked out room for our Glow Day centers as students do "glow" centers with glow sticks (to build sight words" and highlighters for glowing word work. The sno cone machine will be used for one of the centers at our carnival day where students will play review games. It will also be used for Snow Day to create real snowballs for our engineering snowball races. The blood bags and face masks will be used to transform my students into surgeons as they fix sight words and cvc words to "save" patients. All of the requested items will help me to transform my classroom and as Hope King says, "Set the Stage to Engage!"
