Help me give my students the tools we need to gear our therapy sessions to a more hands on approach while also building their vocabulary by exposing them to higher level vocabulary.
As the speech and language teacher for our school, I get the pleasure of seeing ALL grade levels and ALL abilities. I work with Pre-K students, K-6th grade students for language support and growth, and our 2 Life Skills classrooms for students with moderate-severe disabilities. It is my favorite thing to be able to watch students over multiple years grow in their functional, conversational, and academic speech abilities!
My job is critical to give all students the ability to transcend and achieve to be able to navigate their world through speech and language skills.
This is my 9th year working at our school. Our elementary school is in a low-income district and is the definition of a neighborhood school. Our families have been here for multiple generations of students which makes working here more like being with family than coming to work each day.
My students work hard each day, and I would love to be able to give them the resources and support that they deserve.
My Project
This past school year I've worked towards co-teaching in the classrooms with grades kindergarten through second grade to help build literacy through letter/sound discrimination as well as increasing their vocabulary knowledge and usage! Our students learn through multiple modalities and I quickly found that my resources are not up to the standards necessary to meet their needs.
I have found recently the need for a tactile approach to helping my students carryover their articulation skills from small group pull out therapy to being in the classroom amongst their friends showing them how we work on letter/sound discrimination in the speech room with the "peech" teacher.
