This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are absolutely wonderful! They come with many talents and abilities as well as an open mind. They are confident, fearless, and eager to learn. My students love technology and everything that it allows them to do, learn, and create! The students in my classroom learn best through hands-on, engaging experiences, and this is what I love about them. They inspire me to dig deep and create rich experiences that will foster their creativity and critical thinking abilities throughout the year.
My Project
Imagine sitting in a classroom learning about the coordinate plane and instead of playing the traditional Battleship game to teach x and y coordinates, the teacher gives you a robot (Sphero Bolt) and tells you to program it to find the targets! This is exactly the type of experience I am hoping to give my students with Operation: iCode.
Today's students desire to be engaged at all times and crave ownership of their learning.
Robotics is a great way to not only teach students to code, but it provides continuous engagement of the students and creates a truly immersive experience.
The 21st Century requires its own set of basic skills for students to be successful, and coding is one of those skills. I will use the Sphero Bolt and the iPad to build my students' knowledge and experience with coding to spark their interest in STEM fields and develop critical thinking skills. The iPad and Sphero Bolt are sure to help facilitate student engagement and achievement.
