This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach over 400 students on a weekly basis. All of them get a very hands-on, materials-based visual art experience in my class. We have made so much beautiful and inspiring, individual and collaborative art together. My students are used to experimenting with as many different materials as I can get into their hands.
During this pandemic, my students have gone through a lot of trauma and having them be able to continue to get a rich and meaningful art experience, especially now, will keep them connected to their school community and help them be able to express themselves during this stressful time.
My Project
Last Spring, during distance learning, we managed to do some art projects together without using many art materials. But I know our curriculum could be so much more rich and fulfilling with some basic art supplies for each student to have at their home.
With these basic art materials for each student, we will be able to continue making beautiful art together which will help make their distance learning not feel so distant.
Expressing ourselves through art is more important than ever. Please help my students be able to continue learning about themselves and the world by making art with their classmates even though we have to be away from each other right now. Virtual learning can be rich and meaningful if we supply our kids with the basic materials they need.
Thank you for your support during this difficult time!
