My first graders are an amazing group of motivated learners. They come from various backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. However, along with the help of their extremely supportive parents, they have shown that even a pandemic cannot stop their hunger for learning. They have learned how to navigate new technology associated with virtual learning such as Zoom, Schoology, and Nearpod. All while meeting and exceeding state standards in reading, writing, and math. We have now been met with yet another new challenge as we welcome students back in the classroom in a hybrid model. We are a few weeks into what some people call "Room and Zoom", where students are learning in the classroom and virtually at the same time. My students have accepted all of these challenges with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
My Project
My students have been doing an awesome job during virtual learning. One of the things that we have found is a common interest in our love drawing. We have also welcomed back students into the classroom via the hybrid model. These students are trying the navigate the complexities of being in the classroom with their friends but having to stay socially distant.
My project will help make our socially distant seating arrangement more appealing as well as allow us to keep to spend more quality time connecting through the arts.
