My Students
We live in rural Maine with limited resources and a high level of poverty. The students in our school need to be supported to succeed academically and find how they best learn. I teach junior high-level mathematics in a small school. My students enjoy the flexibility of learning in small group environments and with teachers who look after not only their academic needs but their needs as a whole. The more we encourage our students to succeed academically, the more they will thrive throughout their lives.
My Project
Students have many various reasons they are distracted in class. I aim to be a teacher who is sensitive to their needs and help provide them with a rich collection of tools to help meet their needs.
These weighted pads and study carrels will help them calm and focus on the tasks at hand.
When students' needs are met they are better able to focus on tasks. By having weighted lap pads they will get a calming effect while they work. If they need space more isolated from distractions, these study carrels will provide them with "their space" to learn.
