Help me give my students in the team sports enrichment the opportunity to compete with each other in the fast-paced game of badminton! In order to do so, we'll need nets, rackets, and shuttlecocks.
Our school is a charter school, as such ours is one of choice. The students that come to this school do so because they are interested in accessing an education that is outside the mainstream. Students come to our school from throughout the city.
In addition to the core classes of math, science, language arts, and social studies, our school offers students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade the opportunity to learn to play marimba and guitar, converse in Spanish, challenge themselves physically in movement, and indulge in art.
My Project
In teaching the enrichment of Team Sports, the class is exposed to a variety of different sports: basketball, football, floor hockey, etc.
In adding badminton into the mix, I'm hoping to invigorate their sense of competition in a sport that will be new to many of them.
It's my hope that badminton will provide an opportunity for students to engage quick reflexes and thinking on one's toes. With four badminton nets, our students will have the opportunity to compete with one another in teams and through tournaments. Working in teams of two will require collaboration and hopefully a certain degree of bonding.
