This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students live diverse lives outside of school. Most of them receive free or reduced lunch and are growing up in a small tight knit community. In our classroom they get to explore and travel places they may never get to go. We do this through our classroom library. They can be anyone, go anywhere through the pages of a book. The children look to find inspiration at every turn so, as they inspire me, I must inspire them.
I have to make sure they dream bigger dreams, think larger thoughts, and ask deeper questions so that they will understand more and more each day.
My students won't just be the next generation but they will be a generation that makes a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
My Project
Our students come to us, some not having any formal learning beforehand, eager to learn. Kindergarten is where we open their eyes to something new! Something bright and alive! We can spark their imaginations and motivate them for a lifetime. A big way that we do that is through books. However, those sweet babies do not come to us already knowing how to read. They usually do not get to truly explore our great classroom library until the spring. This listening center and audio book sets will help them to be able to explore the magic inside of a book from the moment they step into our doors. This will help to encourage them to pick up a book and try to read it on their own.
